Montgomery Executive Center is a six-story, steel-framed office building constructed in the early 1980s. In July 2017, a sudden vertical displacement was observed in part of the building, initially suspected to result from foundation settlement. Structura was engaged to conduct a detailed forensic investigation, which revealed that the root cause was the failure of a severely corroded exterior steel column. Further investigation identified widespread deterioration among other exterior columns, prompting an immediate building closure to ensure safety.
Given the urgency, Structura led a rapid response effort involving temporary column shoring, hydraulic jacking, and the installation of steel reinforcements at 19 exterior column bases. Working closely with property management and multiple rehabilitation contractors, Structura designed and implemented real-time remedial measures, successfully restoring structural integrity and enabling the building to reopen for tenant use in just 33 days.
