Project Description
Structura served as the structural engineer of record for Lexington Medical Park – Otarre Pointe, a 70K SF, two-story office complex near I-77 in South Carolina. Designed in collaboration with Perkins+Will, the steel-framed structure houses Lexington Family Practice’s state-of-the-art facilities, including X-ray services, lab spaces, and Occupational Health services, supporting 64 full-time employees. Featuring a precast concrete façade, the building combines architectural interest with sustainable design, earning LEED Silver certification. Efforts to preserve the natural landscape included minimizing asphalt and conserving existing trees.
Structura employed SidePlate® moment connections for the lateral system, enabling an open floor plan with extensive glazing while reducing steel tonnage to 370 tons and eliminating field welding. Early involvement by Hood Construction allowed Structura to streamline the project through advanced modeling, facilitating bids from fabricators using both 2D plans and model takeoffs.
In close collaboration with D&T Steel, Structura delivered the final fabrication package within five weeks, achieving significant time savings. This meticulous planning resulted in zero RFIs related to structural steel, underscoring the project’s efficiency. This project exemplifies Structura’s ability to deliver innovative, efficient structural solutions that balance architectural vision and construction precision.
"The detailed drawings were some of the best ever. Any questions were resolved quickly. All electronic files were excellent. The whole process was a good experience for D&T." – Travis Crumpton, President (D&T Steel)
