Project Description
Structura collaborated with Cooper Carry Architects on the design and construction of Virginia Tech’s state-of-the-art, LEED Silver-certified research facility in Arlington’s Ballston area. This seven-story, 144,000 SF building features six levels of computational laboratories, offices, and conference spaces for executive programs, training, and workshops, with a retail base housing an educational/exhibition facility and community gathering area. Additionally, the building includes three levels of below-grade parking, providing space for 238 vehicles.
Structura played a key role in designing the structural systems for this highly technical and complex facility. Our scope included developing the framework to support the unique requirements of computational labs and office spaces while addressing the challenges of multi-level parking and the retail base. Structura also ensured the building met the sustainability standards required for LEED Silver certification. Part of a larger JBG development, the Virginia Tech facility is now a vital piece of the Ballston area, supporting both educational and community engagement. Structura’s expertise was integral to bringing this innovative and multi-use space to life.
