Project Description
As the Structural Engineer of Record, Structura provided essential structural design and engineering services for the renovation and expansion of St. John's College High School’s Gallagher Gymnasium and athletic facilities in Northwest Washington, DC. The project included significant upgrades to the gymnasium, such as lowering the main floor, modifying existing foundations, and adjusting walls to accommodate the new layout.
Additionally, Structura's scope encompassed the design and construction of several key improvements to enhance the school’s athletic offerings. This included the construction of new concourses, the addition of a two-story Fieldhouse, and the design of dugouts for the newly relocated baseball field. The existing football field underwent a complete renovation, including the removal of the original baseball field to a new location above an underground garage, the addition of a 6-8 lane running track, and the relocation of bleachers.
Structura also provided foundation design for new bleachers, engineered retaining walls for hillside cuts, and the creation of a new green Quad that replaced the existing surface parking lot, helping to further beautify and enhance the campus. This comprehensive renovation and addition project supports St. John's College High School’s mission to provide state-of-the-art athletic facilities and community spaces for its students.
