Project Description
Structura collaborated closely with Wright McGraw Beyer Architects on a design-assisted project that featured three distinct components. The first was a large, climate-controlled structure designed to house a blood plasma storage freezer, measuring 200’L x 60’W with a 45’ clear height. This "box within a box" was constructed using steel framing and non-load-bearing precast panels for the exterior walls, ensuring the facility could maintain temperatures as low as -31°F. The central portion of the facility included a 35K SF lab and processing area, built with composite steel joists and reinforced to withstand tornado impact loads. The front section of the building was a two-story, 41K SF steel-framed structure serving as the corporate headquarters for the owner's U.S. operations.
Through a modified structural package approach, Structura helped expedite the steel delivery, ensuring the project’s timely completion. This consolidation of 45 nationwide facilities allowed the owner to bring plasma testing in-house, yielding an estimated monthly savings of $1 million. Structura's expertise in structural design and engineering solutions played a pivotal role in the success of this project, optimizing both functionality and efficiency.
