Project Description
Structura collaborated with Cooper Carry Architects on the NASA Administrative Office Building I, a pivotal component of the New Town modernization initiative at NASA’s Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA. This project, part of a broader 12-year, six-building development program, aimed to densify the facility and enhance its functionality. Structura played a critical role in delivering a safe, resilient, and efficient structural design for the three-story, all-glass and metal building. The team developed structural systems that adhered to rigorous safety standards, including UFC 4-010-01 DOD Minimum Anti-Terrorism Standards for Buildings and UFC 4-023-03 Design of Buildings to Resist Progressive Collapse.
Project scope also involved detailed analysis and design to support the building’s unique architectural features while addressing the specific operational requirements of NASA’s research environment. Additionally, the team worked closely with project stakeholders to optimize structural performance and streamline the construction process, ensuring that this building would serve as a foundation for the success of the broader modernization program.
