Project Description

As part of NASA’s 12-year, six-building modernization program at Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA, known as New Town, Structura also provide structural engineering services for the GSA Design Excellence Integrated Engineering Services Building (IESB). This project involves the design of a new 120K SF, two-story, mixed-use facility, designed to support NASA’s collaborative engineering efforts. The building will house engineering collaboration spaces, offices, a multi-media production suite, a full-service cafeteria, an Education and Training Center, as well as theater, conference, and meeting facilities.

Structura’s responsibilities included the design and analysis of the building’s structural systems, ensuring that they meet the project’s unique operational needs while aligning with sustainability goals. The building features advanced design elements such as a green roof, geothermal heating and cooling, light shelves, and sun control devices, all contributing to energy efficiency and sustainability. With a focus on occupant well-being, the design also emphasizes access to natural daylight. The project is registered with the USGBC and is targeting LEED Gold certification, reflecting the commitment to environmental stewardship throughout the design and construction process.
