Project Description
Structura is proud to have played a key role in the renovation of the FBI’s Terrorist Screening Center (TSC) facility at Liberty Park in Vienna, VA, alongside the design and installation of a dedicated 9/11 Memorial. Our scope of work included significant structural retrofitting to the existing building, reinforcing the structural steel framework to meet the required standards for "Air Blast Effects" and ensuring its resilience against potential threats. Additionally, Structura supported critical upgrades to the facility’s backup power infrastructure by underpinning the structure to accommodate increased power capacity, thus enhancing the overall security and functionality of this vital national security asset.
In addition to our work on the TSC facility, Structura contributed to the creation of a poignant 9/11 Memorial located adjacent to the renovated building. This memorial serves to honor the victims, survivors, first responders, and families affected by the tragic events of September 11, 2001. The memorial incorporates several significant artifacts from the World Trade Center site, including a 10-foot steel column from the North Tower, a section of rooftop antenna, and the centerpiece—a massive 45-foot, 52,000-pound 'trident' from the North Tower, which is prominently displayed near the rear entrance.
To further enhance the memorial's symbolism, three restored 60-foot flagpoles from the WTC site were carefully positioned to cast shadows on key elements of the memorial at the exact times the attacks took place, adding a powerful temporal aspect to the tribute. Through this project, Structura not only supported the renovation of a critical national security facility but also helped bring to life a powerful and lasting tribute to the resilience and sacrifice of those impacted by 9/11.
