Project Description
As the Structural Engineer of Record, Structura collaborated with R. McGhee & Associates on the renovation of the Capitol View Neighborhood Branch Library in Southeast Washington, DC, part of the District of Columbia Public Library System. Originally built in 1965, the 22,240 SF, two-story library underwent a comprehensive renovation, completed in two phases, to revitalize both its functionality and aesthetic appeal.
Structura's work involved providing structural solutions that supported a complete transformation of the building. The renovation introduced a striking new exterior façade and a more inviting entrance, enhancing the library’s presence in the community. To increase natural light and improve interior spaces, Structura's design allowed for the installation of expanded windows, creating brighter, more open environments for library visitors.
In addition, the renovation included the construction of a new computer training lab with 12 workstations, offering the community greater access to technology. The project also incorporated environmentally sustainable features, improving the building’s energy efficiency and aligning with the growing demand for green architecture Structura’s expertise helped ensure the library’s renovation preserved its structural integrity while enhancing its role as a modern, dynamic hub for learning and community engagement.
