Tenant Improvements

Moses Cone Hospital - North Tower is a six-story addition providing 225K SF of patient care space. The structural system features conventionally reinforced poured-in-place concrete, with beams and girders on column grids only. An expansive interstitial space above the operating room suite level was designed for future hybrid OR flex space. The roof includes extensive penthouses and solar panels integrated with mechanical utility raceways.

The project’s primary challenge was designing a six-story connector linking the new construction to existing patient floors. This required threading new columns through occupied spaces below and designing new foundations capable of handling wind and seismic lateral loads. Significant modifications were also made to the existing building structure at the construction interface.
