Founded in 1887 by US Catholic bishops with the support of Pope Leo XIII, Catholic University of America is the national university of the Catholic Church in Washington, DC. As a result of the Mineral, VA earthquake and associated aftershocks in August 2011, several historic buildings throughout the campus sustained varying degrees of damage.
The University retained Structura to assess 28 buildings built between 1888 and 1958, with levels of damage varying from building to building based on the original construction method and date. Structura provided structural engineering services to design the most severely damaged buildings on campus, including Caldwell Hall, McMahon Hall, the John K. Mullen Library, and the Hartke Theater, as well as additional repairs and renovations.
