Project Description
Structura was proud to collaborate with KANN Partners on the renovation of a historic 80,000 SF building in downtown Baltimore into a 101-room Staybridge Suites hotel. Originally built in 1880 for the Corn and Flour Exchange and designed by John Niernsee, this National Register of Historic Places building was heavily damaged in the 1904 Great Baltimore Fire and later rebuilt in 1905 by Charles E. Cassell. The building’s most recent renovation in 1985 provided classroom and office space.
Structura provided critical expertise to adapt this historic structure for hospitality use while maintaining its architectural integrity. The renovation includes converting the building into a modern hotel with studio rooms, each equipped with a full kitchen to cater to extended stays for vacationers and hospital visitors. Our team ensured the structural design supported the required building systems, preserving the building’s historic character while meeting the needs of the new program.
