Project Description
Structura served as the structural engineer of record for a unique restaurant project located in the recently renovated Gunther Apartments, a historic site within the Canton neighborhood of Baltimore, MD. The 7,000 SF restaurant features two expansive main dining areas and several smaller rooms, with a 30-foot-high ceiling housing the main dining space. A mezzanine level spans the length of the main dining room, offering views of an open kitchen below. A striking 16-foot-tall living wall, adorned with plants, adds a distinctive touch above the stairs leading to the mezzanine.
Project scope focused on the design and engineering of a new mezzanine and grand staircase in what was previously a vacant space within the Gunther Brewery complex. This historic building required careful structural adaptations to accommodate the modern restaurant features, including the creation of the mezzanine and supporting the open kitchen below. Additionally, Structura ensured the structural integrity of the building’s framework while preserving its historic value, seamlessly blending new elements with the building's storied past.
