Structura was proud to partner with PI.KL Studio on the transformation of an underutilized maintenance facility into a vibrant new prep and entertainment venue for the University of Maryland, College Park. Located at the prominent intersection of Paint Branch Parkway and Baltimore Avenue, this adaptive reuse project breathes new life into the existing 9K SF single-story structure.

Project scope entailed providing comprehensive structural engineering services, including the evaluation of existing conditions and the development of a foundation framework to accommodate extensive modifications. These included the removal of the original roof, design of new internal structures to support a flat roof, and integration of modern HVAC and plumbing systems. Structura also ensured that the building was reinforced to meet current wind and seismic (EQ) codes, delivering a safe and resilient design. This project exemplifies Structura’s expertise in adaptive reuse and structural innovation, contributing to UMD’s campus enhancements while preserving and repurposing an existing structure.
