Project Description
Structura served as the structural engineer of record for a new, nine-story, multi-family residential building in Northwest Washington, DC, designed by Eric Colbert & Associates. The project featured a complex structural system that integrated slab edges with the building’s modern curtainwall façade. This required close collaboration with both the architects and curtainwall manufacturers early in the design process.
Structura designed a two-way, post-tensioned, concrete flat plate system for the superstructure, providing efficient, thin structure depths and flexibility for interior partitions. However, the system's tendon anchors along the perimeter slab edges presented a challenge due to the space required for curtainwall anchors. To resolve this, the design team proactively coordinated with curtainwall manufacturers, ensuring that the slab edges could accommodate both tendon anchors and embed plates for the curtainwall. This early collaboration resulted in a fully coordinated set of drawings, minimizing last-minute changes and field modifications during construction.
