Project Description
Perkins Homes is a transformative 12-block redevelopment project in downtown Baltimore, designed to provide residents with affordable, high-quality living while reimagining the area’s urban landscape. Replacing the original 1940s public housing built for shipyard workers, this ambitious project includes 1,346 affordable and mixed-income units, 500 market-rate units, low-rise apartment buildings, townhomes, small-scale retail spaces, a public school with playing fields, and a large public park.
Structura collaborated closely with Hord Coplan Macht to bring this vision to life. Scope of work included designing the structural systems for the new residential buildings and townhomes, ensuring they integrated seamlessly with the surrounding neighborhood while meeting modern building codes and sustainability standards. Structura also developed solutions to support the diverse uses of the site, from small-scale retail spaces to public amenities like the park and school, requiring tailored structural approaches for each element.
Phases 1 and 2 are now complete and occupied, showcasing thoughtfully designed, structurally sound spaces that prioritize both durability and livability. With the remaining phases fully designed and approved for development, the project is well on its way to becoming a vibrant, mixed-use community that honors its historic roots while fostering future growth. Structura is proud to play a key role in revitalizing this significant piece of Baltimore’s history.
