Project Description
Structura was honored to collaborate with Hickok Cole Architects on the renovation of 1300 Eye Street NW, a landmark building also known as Franklin Square, in the heart of Downtown DC. This prominent 12-story structure, which includes ground-floor retail and 11 floors of office space, required significant upgrades and improvements to enhance both its functionality and aesthetics.
Project scope focused on the structural redesign and enhancements of key building areas, including the 2-story lobby, concourse level, roof terrace, and garage. The team preserved the building’s original architectural elements, such as its iconic columns and marble floors, while integrating modern updates. The grand lobby was reimagined with padded leather walls and custom artwork, and the outdated entry doors and heavy bronze grillwork were replaced with sleek point-supported glass walls, transforming the space into a more inviting and open environment.
Additional structural modifications included the installation of four illuminated canopies at the building’s entrance, drawing attention to the new reception area and creating a seamless visual connection to Franklin Square Park. The reconfigured lobby also incorporated a hidden café, offering coffee and snacks for building tenants in a cozy and welcoming space. Structura’s careful attention to the building’s existing structure and its innovative renovations contributed to the revitalization of this key downtown property, enhancing both its form and function for the future.
