Project Description
Structura played a key role in transforming The Henry (formerly The Monarch), a former industrial site, into a dynamic mixed-use development just north of Old Town Alexandria. Situated near the Parker-Gray Historic District, the project features two distinct structures connected by a shared parking garage, designed to harmonize with the surrounding historic townhouses. The architectural vision incorporated varied styles and materials to break up the building’s mass, creating a cohesive yet contextually sensitive design that complements the neighborhood’s character.
Structura’s engineering expertise supported this vision, enabling the seamless integration of modern design elements within the historic urban fabric. Notably, The Henry introduced Alexandria’s first machine room-less elevator, showcasing Structura’s commitment to innovative, space-efficient engineering solutions. This, alongside other adaptive strategies, balanced cutting-edge technology with respect for the area’s architectural heritage. Today, The Henry enriches the neighborhood with thoughtfully designed residential and retail spaces, serving as a model for blending modern development with historical preservation. Structura’s dedication to precise engineering and collaborative design ensured the project’s success, creating a lasting contribution to Alexandria’s urban landscape.
