Project Description
Founded in 1880 on The Strand, the Old Dominion Boat Club (ODBC) relocated to the city-owned Beachcombers restaurant site at the base of Prince Street on the Potomac River in 2014. Structura collaborated with Winstanley Architects & Planners to design the club’s new three-story clubhouse, blending modern amenities with a deep respect for the site’s historic waterfront legacy.
Situated on land that once extended into the river, the building incorporates piers and decking that reflect 18th-century boatbuilding materials and techniques, honoring the area’s maritime history. The ground level features a lobby with historic artifacts, storage, lockers, showers, and service areas. The first floor includes a large hall for meetings and events, administrative offices, a prep kitchen, and an outdoor patio. The second floor houses a ballroom, boardroom, and full kitchen.
Structura’s work helped seamlessly integrate the new clubhouse into its historical setting, creating a functional, modern space that reflects ODBC’s enduring connection to Alexandria’s waterfront.
