Project Description

Structura served as the structural engineer of record for Lexhold Technology Center – Building A, one of two sister buildings at the University of Kentucky’s Coldstream Research Campus. Designed by EOP Architects, this five-story, 170K SF steel-framed structure accommodates office, research and development, and laboratory uses. Lateral stability for the building was achieved through the integration of concentric braced frames in each direction.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) played a crucial role in the project, facilitating seamless collaboration and design precision. Structura employed BIM to link the analytical and structural models, enabling real-time adjustments to accommodate framing needs, including modifications to the top of steel in depressed and sloped areas and additional load-bracing framing. Structural contributions also extended to architectural elements such as the manually modeled building fins and the curved rotunda, ensuring these design features were effectively integrated.

By leveraging CIS/2 file sharing, Structura enabled direct collaboration with the fabricator/detailer, streamlining the project timeline and enhancing coordination. This innovative approach helped deliver a state-of-the-art facility tailored to meet the needs of Coldstream Research Campus and its users.
