Structura was honored to collaborate with public artist, Ray King, to bring "The Flame" at The Regent to life. This dramatic flame-shaped, tensile sculpture configured in a series of graduated octahedron patterns with an accelerated helical twist marks the busy intersection of Glebe Road and Rte 66 in Arlington, VA and serves as a beacon for the mixed-use commercial building's entrance (950 N Glebe Road) in the thriving Ballston Market neighborhood. Project scope involved providing structural support for the installation of a 30'H holographic glass and stainless steel pipe structure atop a 10'H angular, reinforced concrete pedestal. While the sculpture base bears on a traditional spread footing, the design also called for helical pile supports due to the close proximity of existing underground utilities and adjacent below-grade parking structure.
