Project Description
As the structural engineer of record, Structura played a critical role in bringing David Hess' "Relativity" sculpture to life at the Greensboro Science Center. Selected by the Public Art Endowment, the 70'L, x 32'H sculpture features a hollow, variable triangular shape that spans across the main entrance's circular driveway, supported by two ground-based foundations.
Project scope involved engineering the structural design to support the 15K-pound sculpture, ensuring stability and safety while maintaining the artist's vision. The team provided detailed calculations and design solutions to accommodate the unique geometry and significant loads of the sculpture. Through expert coordination, Structura ensured the successful installation of this striking piece, which highlights the intersection of art and science, and provides a captivating experience for visitors.
