Peninsula 88 is a prominent mixed-use waterfront development located in Washington, DC’s rapidly evolving Buzzard Point area, within the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood, positioned at the corner of V Street and First Street SW conveniently located near Nationals Park, Audi Field, and a vibrant array of dining, shopping, and entertainment venues. Spanning over 165K SF, the development includes eight stories, a penthouse, and two levels of below-grade parking, housing 110 residential units along with a variety of mixed-use amenity spaces. The project is constructed atop a post-tensioned concrete tower, and Structura’s role involved providing essential structural design and engineering expertise.

Given the site's proximity to the waterfront and its location within a flood zone, Structura implemented innovative solutions to protect the building from flood-related risks. The below-grade levels were designed as a watertight “bathtub,” featuring a robust mat foundation and specially engineered tie-down anchors to counteract potential buoyancy forces from flood loads. This design approach ensures the building's resilience, safeguarding both the structure and its occupants from environmental challenges. Through close collaboration with Emotive Architecture, Structura’s structural expertise was key in bringing Peninsula 88 to life, creating a sustainable, safe, and functional addition to the Capitol Riverfront community.
