Initially founded in 1880 on The Strand, ODBC formally agreed to accept Alexandria’s offer to relocate to the city-owned Beachcombers restaurant site at the base of Prince Street on the Potomac River in the summer of 2014. The new clubhouse spans a three-story structure, designed to reflect the significant and treasured past, present, and future of this location.
This site was, in fact, in the river long before the club relocated, so the piers and decking for the building's front illustrate the waterfront's history dating back to the 1700s, utilizing materials and detailing similar to what a boat builder would purpose. The ground level serves as an entry lobby displaying historic artifacts and providing facility storage, lockers and showers, plus loading/service areas, while the first floor features a large open hall for member meetings and banquet rentals, administrative offices, a prep kitchen, and outdoor patio, and a second floor boasts a ballroom, members’ board room, and full kitchen.
