New Town represents the densification of NASA’s oldest research center in Hampton, VA, with the NASA Administrative Office Building I serving as the first milestone in a 12-year, six-building modernization initiative known as New Town at NASA’s Langley Research Center.
As the structural engineer of record for the project, Structura played a critical role in delivering a safe, resilient, and efficient design. The team developed the structural systems for the three-story, all-glass and metal building, ensuring compliance with rigorous safety standards, including UFC 4-010-01 DOD Minimum Anti-Terrorism Standards for Buildings and UFC 4-023-03 Design of Buildings to Resist Progressive Collapse.
Additional scope included detailed analysis and design to support the building’s architectural vision while addressing the unique demands of NASA’s operational environment. The team also coordinated closely with the project’s stakeholders to optimize structural performance and streamline construction, helping to set the tone for the broader modernization program.
