RICHMOND, VA — Ronald McDonald House Charities of Richmond is building a new 50-room house in Richmond’s Jackson Ward neighborhood.
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Richmond’s new 50-room house will be located at 505 W Leigh St. in Richmond.
According to a spokesperson, the building is estimated to cost $32.6 million with the goal for its completion to be in the first quarter of 2027, depending on fundraising.
The first Ronald McDonald House in Richmond opened in 1980 and is located on Monument Avenue, according to the organization’s website. The facility provides temporary housing and support services for families who have to travel far from home to have their children seen and cared for at a local medical facility.
The newest Ronald McDonald House in Richmond opened in 2023 and is located in the Children’s Tower Sky Lobby at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU. This facility is run by Ronald McDonald House Charities of Richmond staff and volunteers. It serves patients’ caregivers and families as their children receive medical treatment.
“Ronald McDonald House Charities has served the greater Richmond community for 45 years. The project to build a new 50-room House is the next pivotal phase in our commitment to provide care and comfort for families whose children are hospitalized.
With the new house, we will be able to care for more than three times the number of families we currently serve.
The need in our community will only continue to grow, and our role will grow along with it. I look forward to sharing our vision and plans to serve more families. Private philanthropy is the key to making this effort possible. I also look forward to sharing more about how we plan to celebrate the generosity of our donors and engage the community in providing support to ensure our vision becomes a reality.”
