Project Overview
As the Structural Engineer of Record for The Henry (formerly known as The Monarch), Structura supported transforming this former industrial site into a prominent mixed-use development just north of Old Town Alexandria. Situated near the Parker-Gray Historic District, this building integrates two distinct structures connected by a shared parking garage, uniting them into a cohesive yet contextually sensitive design.
Architectural Integration & Structural Innovation
To ensure compatibility with the surrounding historic townhouses, the design employs varied architectural styles and materials that visually break up the building's mass. Our approach complemented this architectural vision, allowing the development to blend harmoniously within its historic neighborhood while standing out as a modern addition to Alexandria's urban landscape.
Engineering Firsts & Unique Features
The Henry features Alexandria's first machine room-less elevator, exemplifying our commitment to bringing innovative engineering solutions to urban projects. This project remains a forward-thinking example of adaptive engineering that respects the historical fabric of the city.
Community Impact
Today, The Henry not only enriches the area with new residential and retail spaces but also balances modern engineering advancements with community character.
