Nestled in the heart of historic Fells Point, Broadway Market was established in 1786 and most recently underwent a $3M renovation in 2019 after being shuttered for nearly a decade. The market currently consists of two separate shed buildings featuring various food retail options operating on-site and is managed by the Baltimore Public Markets Corporation, a non-profit operating on behalf of the City of Baltimore.In collaboration with PI.KL Studio, Structura was tasked with updating a 200+ year old market to better support local business and the community. The selection jury was impressed with our team’s “black box” take, featuring a glass layer between the box and original brick façade to acknowledge the building’s history, as well as the wood shed structure, without detracting from the flexible design that allows Broadway Market to reinvent itself and continually adapt in the future at minimal cost.
